Job Offer: Research Assistant for Study on the Impacts of Bariatric Surgery on Brain Health and the Microbiome
Full time position — Initial one-year contract with possibility of renewal

Immediate supervisors: Dr Simon Bacon and Dr Kim Lavoie

Location: CIUSSS-NIM (Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal)

Salary: In accordance with experience

Starting date: As soon as possible


Summary of position:

Under the direct supervision of Drs. Bacon, Lavoie, and Tair Ben-Porat, and in collaboration with the members of the research team, the selected candidate will be dedicated and focused mostly on a study which aims to explore how the dietary patterns and the gut microbiota change after bariatric surgery and the impact of these changes on brain structure and function.

Tasks:

  • Recruit and follow up with participants
  • Liaise with the bariatric clinic and all assessment teams to ensure the continued smooth running of the study
  • Prepare research related materials under the guidance of the main supervisors (patients’ forms and instructions, knowledge translation materials, results reports, etc.)
  • Schedule assessments
  • Coordinate and supervise data collection and management (assessments, questionnaires)
  • Keep track of questionnaire modifications and prepare ethics applications
  • Collaborate with our data management experts to update databases (through the REDCap program)
  • Prepare and facilitate meetings with various collaborators (researchers, patients, etc.) to report on the study’s progress

The candidate will need to demonstrate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Attention to details

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma (BA / BSc or above) in a relevant field
  • Previous experience in conducting research
  • Fluency in both French and English (spoken and written)
  • Ability to use Word and Excel

Desired Qualifications:

  • Skills with web interfaces (data entry via electronic tablets)
  • Experience with REDCap
