CONTRIBUTE YOUR PERSPECTIVE TO SCIENCE!

The MBMC is looking for patients to volunteer as patient-investigators and to take part in our research processes.

Your participation would be needed 3 to 4 times per year for sessions lasting approximately 2 hours. Any training you would require will be provided as needed.

You can get involved in a number of different capacities:

  • CO-INVESTIGATOR
  • Help the main investigators prepare grants, define study objectives and methods, and analyze data.
  • FACILITATOR
  • Assist presenters in focus groups to coordinate meetings.
  • PEER REVIEWER
  • Read articles carefully and make comments
  • PRESENTER
  • Present the results of a specific research project or talk about personal experiences as a patient-investigator at a conference.

Co-Investigator

PATIENT INVESTIGATOR – CO-INVESTIGATOR

ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES

You may choose to be involved in one or part of these tasks:

  • Providing input on your lived experience
  • Providing input on how healthcare can do a better job
  • Defining project objectives
  • Preparing grants and surveys
  • Attending team meetings
  • Interpreting research results

SKILLS

Willing to openly discuss your healthcare experiences. Methodical, critical thinking, good written comprehension of English and/or French. Additional training provided as needed.

INVOLVEMENT

2 hours, 4 times per year

Facilitator

PATIENT INVESTIGATOR – FACILITATOR

ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Assist in planning and organizing meetings, identifying the essential things to discuss, and assist in leading focus groups.

SKILLS

Good communicator, listener, and mediator, being well organised, and collaborative. Good spoken comprehension of English and/or French. Additional training provided as needed

INVOLVEMENT

2 hours, 3-4 times per year

Peer Reviewer

PATIENT INVESTIGATOR – PEER REVIEWER

ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Review research proposals/ideas and scientific articles, make comments, give your opinion on the relevance of the article from your related experience.

SKILLS

Methodical, critical thinking, curious, and good written comprehension of English and/or French. Additional training provided as needed.

INVOLVEMENT

2 hours, 3-4 times per year

Presenter

PATIENT INVESTIGATOR – PRESENTER

ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES

Helping in the creation of presentations (content, format, timeline, etc.), presenting specific content related to your perspective.

SKILLS

Good communicator, comfortable speaking in front of an audience, and able to speak in English and/or French. Additional training provided as needed.

INVOLVEMENT

Available during the day. Conferences may occur in different cities and/or countries.
