Family celebrations bringing together multiple generations carry a heightened risk as COVID-19 surges in Quebec.

Dr. Kim Lavoie, Canada research chair in behavioural medicine and psychology professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, advises talking to the people who will be at a gathering to get an idea of how much exposure they have had, and of their tolerance for risk.

“I’m a big proponent of having those conversations with the people you want to see,” she said. Some might not be comfortable spending time with those who have been in more high-risk situations, like health-care workers or those who work with the public.
