Summary

RESP is a dynamic database that we have put in place for adult asthmatic and COPD patients seen at the respiratory clinics of HSCM and CHUS. To be included in the database, patients must be at least 18 years old and have a diagnosis of asthma or COPD confirmed by a respiratory physician of HSCM or CHUS. For every patient who accepts to be enrolled in RESP, we collect data via an interview, self-report questionnaires and by medical chart review. The information collected during the interview includes socio-demographic variables (age, sex, marital status, income, employment status, level of education, ethnicity and insurance drug plan), lifestyle habits (smoking, exercise), anthropometric measures, age at diagnosis, drug and supplemental oxygen use, health services utilization, asthma and COPD control and adherence questionnaires (ACQ, MMRC and Morisky) and psychological data (depression, anxiety). From the medical chart, we collect information on lung function measures, comorbidities, allergic cutaneous tests and prescribed medications. Patients who consent to participate in RESP are also asked to give us the permission to link their clinical data with other databases (RAMQ, MED-ECHO and reMed) to obtain information on medical services dispensed, filled prescriptions and hospitalizations. Patients also consent to be contacted for future studies.
